Description of the text
She was born in
Enon, Ohio. According to the text in the issue, she married at 17, divorced less than two years later and had a son. She joined the Springfield police force in 1979. At that time there were only two women in the force; there were 148 men.
The text continues to tell that Schantz had contacted Playboy. She had sent them some pictures of her and suggested that they do a pictorial about women in the force. It is not clear if the pictures Schantz sent were nude or not. She further states that the magazine called her back and told her they wanted to do a pictorial on her.
At the time of the writing of her article, she had stated that there could be proceedings brought against her for posing nude.
She later was fired from the force. Her story was made into the 1983 movie
Policewoman Centerfold featuring
Melody Anderson in a somewhat fictionalized portrayal of Schantz.
