70s British Sex Comedies
Hi - firstly what a fantastic forum, many great memories have been brought back from most times of my life! I really have a love of 70s sex comedies from Britain, I know they weren't everyones cup of tea - but they are such a strong memory for me.
I see there are various films that have been uploaded but the majority seem to be still missing. Could we put together a list of what people consider films that fit the criteria and then try to find them? I consider the Confessions and Adventures films to fit the bill but have noticed that Amazon have many of these films available on DVD now (like Suburban Wives and Commuter Husbands etc). First thing is to get a list I suppose and go from there. Any thoughts? Cheers |

Check out a very good book called KEEPING THE BRITISH END UP by Simon Sheridan. It's about British made sex films and is a good in depth read. It introduced me to Heather Deeley who, in her day, was a real stunner.
Personally I'd like to get hold of a copy of The Ups and Downs of a Handyman. One of the best and most overlooked though is What's Up Nurse. |

At the end of the 90's the Cinema Club label released several 70's sex comedies on VHS, of those I've got "The Ups and Downs of a Handyman" and "The Amorous Milkman" I'll see if I can rip them and post them here in the next few days, time permitting.

Slight downside is that the DVDs of Commuter Husbands and Suburban Wives that are on Amazon are unauthorized releases and quality wise will just be copies of the old 1980s tapes transferred to DVD.
Incidentally the whole of The Ups and Downs of a Handyman was recently uploaded to this site. http://zddtube.ning.com/ |

Re: Ups And Downs Of A Handyman
I remember hiring this film from my local video store sometime in the 80s. I then bought a copy when it was re-issued by Cinema Club on VHS - in the late 90s I think - and I noticed that one of the scenes had been censored. I have quite a keen eye for detail and a reasonably good memory (also it was a scene that made a particular impression on me when I originally saw it), so even after such a long time I knew that something was amiss. The scene to which I refer is the one where he is seduced in the bath by two women - one of them is the buxom shop assistant, the other a slender brunette in black lingerie. I remember the scene being quite a bit longer, but in the Cinema Club re-issue a whole chunk of it is missing.
My suspicions were confirmed some years' later when Channel 5 began broadcasting many of the 1970s Brit sex comedies. Handyman was one of the films they showed. The Channel 5 version must have been the original cinema release because the whole scene had been left intact - exactly how I remember it. Therefore, the Cinema Club issue is not a complete version but the version that Channel 5 broadcast is and this is the one that should be sought - even with the adverts. Unfortunately I got rid of a lot of my VHS tapes when my video recorder bust and I moved on to DVD and then PVR. Regards

Confessions Of A Sex Maniac - with Roger Lloyd Pack. Again, I rented this video from my local store in the mid-80s and memories of it remained with me for a long time. I did a search for it on Amazon a couple of years' ago to see if it was available on DVD. A result came came back saying it was due to be released on DVD later that year. Great, I thought. But on another visit to the site some months' later it stated that the release date had been postponed until further notice. Subsequent visits merely stated that the title was unavailable on DVD - although it is still even now being offered on VHS for around £15.
Tiffany Jones - with Anouska Hempel. The highlight of this film in my opinion is a really long scene in which about a dozen 70s models get their kit off during a cocktail party on the patio of a big country mansion. All those nameless beauties from countless girlie mags of my youth coming to life and parading around with their jiggly bits on my TV was quite a treat. This film has also been shown on Channel 5 (Those were the days, eh? When CH5 was merely interested in peddling smut to the masses!), but alas, my taped VHS copy has gone the way of all the others. Regards
