Agree with most postings. All that is on display nowadays is a thong tan line, and that's if you're lucky. I also prefer the "full bikini" tan lines that you used to see.

Agreed on both counts. Tan-lines today are a (pardon the pun!) pale imitation of what they once were. Wheras before, it was the norm, nowadays, its an exceptional circumstance when women sport them.

There are a couple of things that appeal to me about tan-lines.

The first one is the implication that she is the girl next door, and not some professional model, who may be beyond the reach of your average Joe. And because this is quite possibly the first time that she has ever taken her clothes off in public (or at least for the photographer), then it only adds to the fantasy. And when coupled with a larger expanse of pale skin, it all adds up to one potent piece of eroticism.

The second thing (which is a purely sociological observation) is that it gives you a deeper insight into the fashion of the time - a different time in which women were allowed to be themselves, and they weren't expected to live up to an unattainable (and in most respects, unhealthy) standard of beauty which, unfortunately for us, is what we are left with today. Thanks in no small part to the media.

For fear of repeating the first poster quoted above, I agree wholeheartedly with the observation that the paleness of the skin only serves to enhance the impact of the Black (or any hair colour for that matter) hair, and the more obvious appeal of the breasts, on the eye of the observer.
