A general thanks to everyone who posted in this thread. I was a big PH fan back in the day and it was nice to talk a walk down memory lane, so to say.

One thing I can't help but notice, and I'm wondering if anyone has anything to add, but after browsing through these pages I'm a bit shocked to see how few women of color PH used. I mean even Playboy has had a pretty good run with asian, black, and especially latina models. But for some reason these pictorals are all pretty much white females. And I guess it goes without saying that PH never did any IR pictorals with a black male? At least I've never seen one. Any thoughts on this? I thought Guccione was more liberal than that.

I'd like to go beyond just saying thanks for all the work that went into this thread. It's been a real treat to find not only old pictorials that were burned into my young brain 20 years ago, but to see additional pictures from the same shoot that I had not seen before.

Default Film noir couples pictorial

Sometime between Aug 75 and Aug 79, one of these couples features was set in the world of Sam Spade, film noir, 1940s. A PI gets it on with a femme fatale.

Anybody got?

I have pleasant memories of it.

This whole forum is amazing. What took me so long to get here? Thanks so much to everybody.

I'm reminded of an old "Chic" subscription ad. They showed three guys, one repped PB, another Hustler, and the third PH. The PH guy looked like a chav in after-six wear with a stick up his ass. The tagline was "Wouldn't you rather be a Chic Man?"

I guess my point is that PH was trying to project an international and cosmopolitan image. Consequently there were fewer American black and hispanic women (though there were a few "latinas" if you allow South Americans and Europeans). Back in the day there was more room for minorities as the girl next door, imagewise.

Thanks for your reply, it's certainly interesting. I still must say though that as someone who always said that PH was basically PB but with a willingness to push the boundaries that you'll never see in PB it's disappointing to see them get beaten so thoroughly by PB in this respect. And as I said before, the fact that PH really tried to distance themselves from PB by doing couple scenes but then played it conservative by not having even one (!) IR couple scene is really shocking too. It shows me that, when push came to shove, PH was never as progressive as I gave them credit for in the past.

I'm going to sound like a vintage PH apologist? Oh well, more surreal things have happened.

I'm not sure how old you are, but the 1970s was a very, *very* different time. And PH certainly, if it wasn't progressive, challenged the status quo in a number of ways: not only by pushing the bounds of erotica, but editorially as well, by constantly tweaking the nose of the establishment. They also stood up for the little guy too, eg The Vietnam Veterans Advisor. What was PB doing?

Yeah, basically they're both in it for $$ and both sold lots of ads for middle of the road stereo systems. But in the end PH have more of the edge, progressively.
