Cristina Spatar is a Romanian R&B singer. She attended the "Nadia Comaneci" high school where she studied popular art and "singing" ... she then attended a course in modelling with 'Flash Publicity'. She began playing folk music with her sister Narcisa at the age of twelve and she participated in various light music festivals around the country, where she won many prizes. Her first professional gig was officially at the Mamaia Festival '91. This singing background led to her first R&B album in 2000 "Stay with me", and this was followed later by another R&B album, "Message of Love" .... she is currently working on the 3rd album with composer Laurentiu Duta. She has spent time in London taking English lessons in the hope of being able to break the US market.

Oops Moments:

There were two Oops moments for this woman ... the Internet is a dangerous place for wannabee stars, especially in small countries so its perhaps no surprise when Romanian sites reported that a sex-tape of her and an 'ex' boyfriend had appeared in 2004: With her having sex with her ​​then boyfriend while naked in the shower. Allegedly more pictures of her naked then appeared on the Internet.

Then, just when that scandal died down, a web site apparently got hold of transcripts of a recorded conversation between her and her 'fiance' just before they broke up, in which she accuses him of impotence and needing Viagra and driving her to other men to satisfy her sex needs. He in return calls her a prostitute because he had given her a lot of money, and bought her furniture (a couch), and names the men that he thinks she has slept with behind his back.

...... Maybe leave that US breakthrough attempt for a few more years eh?

Jeanette "Jenny" Jerome was the American-born socialite. Born in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn, New York, she was the daughter of wealthy parents and she grew up in the privileged household that wealth provided. Winters were spent in Manhattan, summers in fashionable Newport, Connecticut, with billionaire neighbours such as the Vandebilts. In 1867 she and her two sisters were taken to Paris by their mother following a scandalous escapade involving their father, and her education and introduction to society followed the manner of the European upper classes.

In 1870, Germany invaded France and the family fled to England, and it was there, on a trip to the Isle of Wight in 1873, that the 19-year-old Jennie met and charmed young Lord Randolph Churchill, son of the duke of Marlborough. But only after a settlement of $250,000 was made by Jennie's father as her dowry were the Marlborough's were won over, and they were married in 1874 .... She was possibly pregnant with her first son Winston when she walked up the aisle.

Love Life & Scandals:

One person who noticed her american flair was the 45-year-old Prince of Wales and an affair followed. She often received the Prince at home alone, and even hired a soon-to-be-famous cook, Rosa Lewis, to prepare private dinners for them. When Edward was crowned King in 1902, she sat in a special pew in Westminster Abbey, which society wits dubbed 'the loose box' on account of its rather promiscuous occupants. She shared it with half a dozen other royal mistresses, including Alice Keppel and Lillie Langtry.

She was married just three times to: Lord Randolph Churchill, statesman in 1874 (died 1895, apparently of syphilis); Captain George Cornwallis-West m. in 1900 and divorced 1913; and finally Montague Phippen Porch, a colonial administrator in 1918. Both these latter men were more than twenty or more years her junior .... a regular cougar But her royal admirer was not her only lover, and one American magazine referred to her as 'Lady Jane Snatcher', due to her fondness for snapping up likely escorts, and she was also known as 'Lady Randy'.

Recent biographies have backed this up, by suggesting that she had as many as 200 lovers over the years, from the ordinary, to the powerful and rich (often allegedly in 'support' of her sons political career).

Other Interests:

In 1899 she founded and edited the few numbers of the lavish but short-lived 'Anglo-Saxon Review', but short lived though it was, contributors included Henry James and George Bernard Shaw .... just friends, possibly. She also turned to writing, producing a volume of discreet Reminiscences of Lady Randolph Churchill (1908); A play starring Mrs. Patrick Campbell, 'Her Borrowed Plumes' in 1909; Another play 'The Bill' in 1913; and 'Short Talks on Big Subjects' in 1916, which was a collection of her articles originally published in Pearson’s Magazine.

In her later years grew increasingly eccentric, but this behaviour was tolerated due to the rise of her son to power, and her many powerful male connections. She died of a fatal haemorrhage following a leg amputation on June the 9th, 1921, and her young husband returned too late from a trip abroad, to an empty house, and a mountain of his wife's debts.

Trivia:

• Legend has it that she was named after the Swedish soprano Jenny Lind.
• Legend also has it that she had a secret tattoo of a snake on her wrist, although this has never been confirmed.
• During the Boer War she raised money for and staffed and equipped a hospital ship, the 'Maine', which worked off the South African coast.

Reminisce Smith is a Grammy nominated American rapper and former member of Fat Joe's rap crew, Terror Squad. She is probably better known as known 'Remy Ma' (formerly known as 'Remy Martin'). Like many of our ladies she had a tough childhood, growing up in the Bronx, New York, as a child of drug using parents, and was forced to take care of her little brothers and sisters at a young age She channelled her distress into school rap sessions and word eventually got to the late MC, Big Pun who took her under his wing (so to speak), appearing on his albums under the name 'Remi Martin'.

After the death of 'Big Pun', rapper 'Fat Joe' signed her to his label and made her a member of 'Terror Squad' but poor sales and promotion of her debut solo album despite good reviews led to her breaking with Fat Joe and the Terror Squad. She had a number of new deals and offers coming from both record companies and television alike when things turned ugly.

Guns and Girls Don't Mix:

In July 2007, She was involved in a shooting incident outside a Manhattan nightclub ... she was with a group of people outside the 'Pizza Bar', a Manhattan nightspot, celebrating Ms. Smith’s birthday when a fight broke out at 4 a.m. amongst her entourage (which included Ms Makeda Barnes-Joseph) During the fighting Smith accused Ms Barnes-Joseph of robbing her of $3,000 taken from her handbag, Ms. Smith pulled her Cadillac Escalade up to Ms. Joseph’s Nissan Maxima, then climbed into the Maxima with a cocked gun and tried to search Ms. Joseph’s purse for the money. During the ensuing struggle, the gun went off and Ms. Joseph was shot in the belly, and Ms. Smith fled in a taxi, abandoning her $69,000 Cadillac on the street and her victim in pool of blood.

Smith pleaded not guilty to charges of attempted murder, assault, and criminal weapon possession. She might have got off with this but for several related incidents:

• Firstly; she was later charged with witness tampering and assault after an August 2007 incident in which she was accused of causing several male friends to attack a witnesses boyfriend (The jury later acquitted Ms. Smith of charges of intimidating a witness in the case).
• Secondly; her apparent disregard for the victim following the shooting—she rifled through the victim's purse looking for the alleged stolen money, as Barnes-Joseph sat seriously wounded in the car. She then exited the vehicle, and jumped into a waiting car and drove off, without calling an ambulance or the police while Barnes-Joseph was slumped bleeding in the front seat.
• Thirdly; while she was on remand she was due to marry the rapper rapper 'Papoose' (Shamele Mackie) at Rikers Island in 2007. The wedding was canceled when jail officials found a key on Mr Mackie’s key chain that could be used to open handcuffs (they later married in May 2008).

The judge called her “an extremely angry young woman” who assumed herself to be beyond the rules of civil society. Smith was sentenced to an eight-year term at the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women in Bedford Hills, New York located in Westchester County and is expecting to be released in 2015. She lost her appeal, and her first parole hearing was set for September 2014 with an eligibility date set for January 31, 2015, according to court documents.

If parole is denied, she may remain in New York’s Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women until March 23, 2016 - her sentence’s maximum expiration date

Trivia:

1. It was not disclosed in court if Smith had in fact retrieved any stolen money from the victim's purse when she looked through it.
2. At her sentencing court hearing there was violence moments later outside the court when her scumbag 'crew' clashed with the equally vile victim’s family and friends who taunted Remy when the verdicts were read – causing chaos in the courtroom. Mackie lunged forward, reaching for the officers and shouting insults.

Adah Isaacs Menken (b. Adah Bertha Theodore) was an American actress, painter and poet. She claimed that her parents were a French Creole mother, and a Free Negro father, and she danced as a child in New Orleans, Havana and Texas. She later converted to Judaism to marry Jewish musician, Alexander Isaac Menken. The marriage was short lived but although they divorced, she remained committed to Judaism her entire life.

She had another three marriages in the space of seven years (She later became Mrs. Robert Henry Newell who was better known by his writing pseudonym 'Orpheus C. Kerr' and even later she became Mrs. James Barkley), and her second husband was John C. Heenan (a noted American prizefighter), but she made that traditional mistake on this thread of not having bothered to secure a legally recognised divorce from Mr Menken, so she was in some trouble for being a bigamist. In any case it didn't much matter as the marriage lasted less than a year ... However she cashed in on his popularity (The Washington Post described him as the most famous man in America), by continuing to bill herself as 'Mrs. Heenan' throughout 1860, causing protestations from Heenan's entourage (though not Heenan himself). She appeared to have benefited financially from this use of her married name by the publicity.

She was still pushing the poetry, and in 1860-61, she contributed a series of poems to the New York Sunday Mercury ... but then she went back to the theatre career! She would do almost anything to maintain a public profile, and the public was shocked with Menken’s short hair and even shorter skirts, and she once gave a press conference lying on a tiger skin, sipping champagne, and smoking a cigarette.

Defying conventional values with shocking behavior was her key to fame and fortune, rather than her dubious acting ability. Her most famous stage role was that of Mazeppa in which she was strapped to a horse in flesh-colored tights seemingly nude . Her provocative stage performance, helped establish her with a reputation as a 'scandalous' public figure. She left the US to perform in Paris, and was courted by Alexandre Dumas and then she went to London, and was wooed by a number of writers and poets, and became a friend to Charles Dickens.

To be honest her painting and poetry were rather poorly received, and her fame was really based upon her dancing, but that was not too highly regarded either ... when in 1859 she appeared on Broadway in the play 'The French Spy', 'The New York Times' described her as "the worst actress on Broadway ", and 'The Observer' said "she is delightfully unhampered by the shackles of talent" . She died at the age of thirty-three in Paris, France in 1868 and is interred in the Cimetière du Montparnasse.

• Dante Gabriel Rossetti is said to have offered her ten pounds to seduce the romantic poet Algernon Charles Swinburne away from his fetish for flagellation, but after six weeks she admitted defeat and returned the money.

Sharmaine Ruffa Rama Gutiérrez is a Filipino model, beauty queen and actress ..... She began acting as a teen actress in the 1980s, and became part of the 'That's Entertainment' show in the early 1990s, getting awards such as "Teenage Box Office Queen", "Darling of the Press" and "Star of the Night", before deciding that what she really needed was to enter the beauty pageants circuit in in 1992.

She enjoyed success when she the representative for the Philippines at the 1992 'Look of the Year' (now 'Elite Look') modelling search in New York, USA. She then followed this up with becoming the 'Binibining Pilipinas World' winner in 1993, and then the second runner-up to Miss World also in 1993 (where she obtained the title of 'Miss World Asia & Oceania').

She then resumed her film and TV career, making eight movies up until 2010 and regularly appearing on TV shows (mostly as judge, or the hostess on reality shows). Her first marriage in the US gave her access to their market but she never broke through ... Her second marriage to a Turkish TV mogul meant that she was working in Istanbul and the Philippine's as well.

Scandals:

• She is an alleged "Bruneiyuki" ('Yuki' derogatory slang for 'offshore workers') in the infamous Brunei scandal.
  
  The 1994 BRUNEIYUKI SCANDAL:
  
  The scandal and the related 'Keanna Reeve's Escort Service' exposé in the 1990's caught the Philippine's attention at a time when the public were protesting against human trafficking. The scandal, which involved Ruffa Gutierrez and other ladies in 1994, became a national issue when the Philippine Senate handled the case "in aid of legislation" on prostitution and trafficking in women.
  
  Ruffa and the others were allegedly paid to 'entertain' one of the Sultan's brothers in Brunei. Rosanna Roces, who claimed to have been one of the Brunei beauties, exposed the case with the help of then Philippine senator Ernesto Maceda Jr. But the issue went away without final resolution, due to lack of evidence and waning of public interest. Nonetheless, the scandal and similar cases of alleged prostitution opened the doors for the Anti-trafficking in Persons Act of 2003. There is reportedly a video circulating the Internet made during one of her trips if there is an enterprising web searcher out there.
  
  
• In 1994, she was involved in the 20th Metro Manila Film Festival scandal.
  
  1994 FILMFEST SCAM:
  
  The infamous words "Take it! Take it!" were uttered during the 20th Metro Manila Film Festival that shook the movie industry in 1994. The Best Actress award, was originally meant for Aiko Melendez, but was given to Best Actress nominee Ruffa Gutierrez by her friend, a Miss Universe 1994 contestant from Mauritius, Viveka Babajee. This was followed by The Best Actor trophy, originally destined for another actor, but went to Gabby Concepcion (Ruffa Gutierrez's co-star in the film 'Loretta').
  
  The mastermind behind this scam was Gabby Concepcion's manageress Lolit Solis. But it was Mr Concepcion who blew the whistle when he found out about the switch and denounced Ms Solis's role in the scam. Ms Solis pleaded guilty and was sentenced to probation and remained under court supervision. The Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim and the the Metro Manila Film Festival committee, resolved the controversy and the awards were given to the rightful winners.
  
  
• She and her parents are currently under investigation for tax evasion in the Philippines.
  
• She has been through a very public and International divorce with allegations that she married bigamously after failing to properly divorce from a 1970 Las Vegas marriage, before remarrying a Turkish businessman who was not best pleased when he found out (death threats and police protection were involved in the fall out ) .... court records show that she only filed for divorce from her first marriage in 2007 (not 2000 as she publicly claimed), but that her second marriage took place in 2003
  
• She is now also apostate according to Islam, because she reverted back to Christianity (after converting to Islam) ...oddly she has not gone back to the Catholic fold, which has offended them as well as the Muslims in the Philippine's.

Shannon Marketic is a former beauty queen from Phoenix, Arizona. She was educated at Pepperdine University, but was rather a professional beauty queen after she left education, who travelled the pageant circuit looking for that one win which would open up the doors that some many have used before and since.

Her first brush with the vicissitudes of beauty queen politics was when she was crowned Miss Arizona Teen USA 1989, but was then stripped of the title after only one week, when it was 'discovered' that an 'error' had been made, and she had actually been placed as just first runner-up She seemingly wasn't put off by this event and in fact may have learnt a few lessons from this, because in 1992 she became Miss California USA and then went on to become Miss USA in the same year (also scooping the Miss Photogenic award) ... the winner of Miss USA would typically pick up prizes and promotional deals worth something like $250,000 in 12 months. She then headed to Bangkok, Thailand for the 1992 Miss Universe pageant, but only finished 8th.

Shannon then specialised in speaking and fronting for Christian organisations, with her "Most Requested Topics" for speaking appearances including "How to Live a Godly Life", and "Submit (to God) to Succeed" .... According to a promotional brochure brandished by her lawyers later in the courts, she performed "mono-dramas" on the evils of abortion, suicide, substance abuse and rape.

She also had a brief movie career starting with 'Black Belt Angels' in 1994, 'The Last Don' in 1997 and her last movie being the comedy, “Very Mean Men” in 2000. She also appeared in an episode of the Dick Van Dyke television series, “Diagnosis Murder.” She then had a quick stint as the theatre teacher for a private school in Dallas, and according to her wiki entry she is currently working as a Pres. Founder, Actor of 'Artists for Family Entertainment'. Her 'Linked in' page states ... TV Host, Comic, Published Writer, Speaker ... GirlPower Media, Theater Instructor, Media/PR Director, Actor, Published Writer, Marketing Mgr, KeyNote Speaker, broadcaster, and actress/producer .... but anyway she was marketing director for the North Texas Fresh - an American Basketball Association Team in 2010.

Oops Moments!

The Law

In June of 2007, Marketic was arrested for public intoxication at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.

In August 2010 Marketic was arrested in Denton, Texas and charged with shoplifting several Olay Professional beauty products valued at just under $90 from a Target store. Marketic denied the charges, saying that the products were obscured by personal items and she had no intent to steal, and she was released the next day after posting a $500 bond.

Other Affairs

In 1997 Marketic filed a lawsuit for $90m (£57m) against 'a Prince' of the ruling family of Brunei, and the "talent agency" that allegedly recruited her, alleging that he had compelled her into performing sexual acts for guests at a party he had organized.

Her claims were that she innocently accepted a $3,000 a day assignment in Brunei for "personal appearances and promotional work". But that while in the company of six other American women (other beauty queens, actresses, and models), she alleged that she was made to dance nightly from 10pm till 3am, was groped and called a whore. She further alleged that she was barred from leaving the country when she refused to prostitute herself. Finally she claimed that the men she was 'entertaining' yelled things like: "I don't know why the boss paid so much money for you. You are the worst group of whores we have had over here" ....

However she conceded that she was not actually raped, nor apparently, was she ever forced to have sex with anyone at all, and that as a devout Christian girl she had retained her 'honour'. Her financial claim was therefore made on the basis that she had suffered $90m's worth of "mental anguish, nightmares, difficulty sleeping, other trauma" .... just to ensure that there was no doubting where she was coming from her suit was littered with phrases such as "white slavery" and "human chattel"

One view is that she should have known perfectly well what she was getting into .... Hollywoods lower echelon food chain is littered with mailbox 'talent agencies', that are advertised in the back pages of city magazines, and that send girls to the Muslim world for 'promotional work' and this euphemism is not really much of a secret. Indeed according to adult actress Kate McVey (screen name "Stormy Gale"), who was interviewed at the time about the girls she sent out from the 'Pretty Girls agency' (not the one involved in Ms Maketic's suit), "They all went out knowing what was expected".

Certainly the amount she was being paid must have been a clue as to what was expected .... An "independent contractor agreement" which Miss Marketic signed, states that Kaliber provided "certain services for a client whose identity is confidential". The payment for a minimum of six weeks, with all expenses paid, was $21,000 a week, for "consulting with the client with regard to planning and providing entertainment and social activities for persons situated at the site" .... not that old chestnut

A court document on Kaliber's "commission structure" shows payments to the agency of a further $8,500 a week per model but that "All birthday money is your own" a cryptic statement if ever there was one .... it further added that "All jewellery is your own". All Ms Marketic's expenses, allegedly including first-class tickets on Singapore Airlines, were paid. One girl commented that many 'adult models' considered these Brunei gigs to be good because the demands were small (in every sense as these asian men were little), and the pay was good and reliable ...in other words you didn't get stiffed too often

Oh, and in case your wondering, according to the Dallas Morning News, a federal judge threw out the suit saying the Sultan was immune from such a court action as he was a foreign head of state and had diplomatic immunity.

Trivia:

• Over the years a number of young western women including some girls from Pl*yboy and P*nthouse got involved or named in the 'Brunei Harem' events (but most knew what they were expected to be doing for the money )... too many in fact to post on them all, but amongst them was Rebecca Michelle Ferratti who a number of posters have identified as such.

Christina Silva was crowned Miss California USA 2008 in November 2007 ... the contestants at the competition at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles were scored by five celebrity judges who independently ranked them. The mix-up occurred when the points were reversed, with the lowest point given to the winner and the highest to the fourth runner-up.

For a girl from an Ecuadorean and Mexican background in the USA this was a big thing .... in fact so big that the president of Ecuador's mom even called Silva's grandmother to congratulate Silva on the accomplishment and to let her know what a great achievement this was for an Ecuadorian-American. She was ecstatic; "I saw my family by the balconies and all I could do was cry and wave and say thank you God, thank you God. It was an amazing, amazing feeling".

Then it all turned a little sour .... 3 or 4 days later, pageant director Keith Lewis, of K2 Productions broke the bad news when she went to his house with her parents. "Within 10 minutes he just said, 'I don't know how to say this to you but you are not the winner. Miss Beazley, the second runner-up, is the winner, and there was an accounting error. All he kept saying is, 'Christina, you can continue wearing the crown and the sash and go on to Miss USA, but if this leaks your integrity and your acting career could be jeopardized. And we know you're faith-based and a woman of integrity and we know you're going to do the right thing, right?'"

Silva was then pressured into breaking the news to the runner up Raquel Beazley ... "It was so bizarre, they kept saying, 'You have to tell her. You have to tell her. You're the honorable one'". She said that she wanted to do the right thing so she agreed without fully understanding what had happened. "I said OK and they had me call within 30 minutes of dropping this bomb" ... of course this was a big disgrace and insult to her and her family, and wasn't well received in Ecuador either.

After the shock, she did the usual thing and sued .... this was accompanied by a TV claim in an exclusive interview with "Good Morning America" when she spoke about her ordeal and her fight to uncover the truth and how she just wanted justice …. "I don't want the title. I want the truth" ... her lawyer put it succinctly "Something does not add up and it's not the votes". This legal eagle requested the names of anyone who had any contact with the ballots. They then listed as defendants 'Miss California USA 2008' state pageant director Keith Lewis, K2 Productions, which produced the pageant, and the Miss Universe Organization …

Miss Silva then initiated a $500,000 lawsuit claiming she was discriminated against due to her race (Ecuadorean and Mexican), and that the officials were uncomfortable because she communicated in Spanish with some vendors, and she also included an amount for emotional distress. The pageant allowed Silva to keep her crown, sash and necklace, and returned her $1,500 entry fee after the error was discovered. The Associated Press reported that duplicates of the her crown, sash and necklace were made for Beazley … no doubt the whole matter was settled with a cheque, and red faces all round …..

Shaletta Tawanna Porterfield is a wannabee beauty queen. She had graduated from Walled Lake Central (Michigan) High School in 2003. But she hadn't entered any pageants until September 19, 2010, when she entered and won the 2011 Miss Wisconsin USA pageant held in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. In doing so she became the third black woman to win the Miss Wisconsin USA crown (previous years were 1996 and 2008). She got a modelling contract with the Ford model agency, working mostly in Chicago and everything went swimmingly in her reign as Miss Wisconsin USA until she suddenly resigned the title in May 2011

And the cause of this abrupt departure was that she was charged in Dane County (Wisconsin) Circuit Court with three felony counts of identity theft. To whit, providing phony signatures on three business contracts. Apparently while she was employed by a marketing organization, she faked the signatures on business contracts for marketing work which the companies hadn't requested .... not unnaturally they became suspicious when they were contacted and asked to proof adverts they had not agreed to buy. The companies involved called the police and investigations ensued.

Ms. Porterfield, 26, was charged with identify theft and she pleaded not guilty. Her legal eagle said she was under extreme pressure to achieve goals and added that 'she has a lot going for her, and she's ready to move on' .... But with just five weeks before the 2011 Miss USA pageant in Las Vegas, the first runner-up for the Miss Wisconsin USA crown assumed the title and represented Wisconsin in the 60th annual Miss USA pageant on June 19, 2011. This makes Porterfield the first woman to resign the Miss Wisconsin-USA title.

Trivia:

• There must be a curse on this title because the previous 'winner' of the title in 2010 was one 'Rima Fakih' who regulars to this thread will recognise, and who has a post already here .... a local radio station in her hometown in Michigan had revealed her pole-dancing past. She was the first-ever Arab-American Miss USA, but had won the radio station's "Stripper 101" contest on a stripper pole at a Detroit gentleman's club in 2007.

Christiane Martel (b. Christiane Magnani) was born in Paris, France and after leaving school she became a sales assistant in Paris, but she is a girl with stars in her eyes. So she does what about 50% of all the girls did on this thread, and that's enter the beauty pageant circuit. Her first success was in March 1952 when she is crowned “Miss Chatellerault” and she followed this up with the “Miss France” crown in the following year.

This gave her the chance to enter the “Miss Universe” in Long Beach, California in 1953. To everyone's surprise she won, and was awarded a Universal International movie contract, a $32,000 sports car and a $2,500 wrist watch. After fulfilling her official duties for 12 months she embarked on a modeling and then a film career appearing in 26 movies such as 'Yankee Pasha', and 'So This Is Paris', and her last film to date, 1962's 'Tharus figlio di Attila' ... maybe the most 'interesting' of these was 'Adam and Eve' which had much strategically placed hair and implied rather than actual nudity

She then left the US to go to Mexico in 1956, where she worked in Mexican TV and 'International' films (dubbed to me or you ), as well as singing with "The Clover Boys", and she is now retired as a politicians wife ....

Marriage and Divorce

Sometime during her title year she met a Mr Ronald “Ronnie” Marengo, the 22 yr old heir to the K&M Department Store chain, while she was attending the opening of a K&M outlet in Hollywood. Every day he flies in with his helicopter to meet her (how can a girl resist?) .... they marry at his parents' home in Stockton, California. She is 18 at the time (state law), and they divorce in 1955. The divorce is a little messy to say the least, with Marengo filing for an annulment / divorce and alleging mental cruelty after the 70-day marriage. He directly accused her of tricking him and further charges that she led him believe that she wanted a home and children enough to forsake a prospective film career ... she counter claims against Mr Marengo, who she claims beat her and preferred whiskey to her company They end up divorced, but only after much publicity of the kind they could have done without .....

When she arrives in Mexico she is romantically linked with Miguel Aleman Velasco Jr ... and Harrison Carroll a newspaper columnist reports: “The end of the two-year romance between Christiane Martel, former ‘Miss Universe,’ and Miguel Aleman, Jr., was not due to any religious barrier to their marriage. I hear Christiane was able to secure church annulment of her brief union with Ronnie Marengo” ... in other words the catholic church didn't recognise the divorce (those were the days eh?).

However the course of true love wasn't to be denied and as Miguel Aleman Velasco jrs father was a former president of the Republic of Mexico, the Church developed a quick change of heart and in 1961 they married.

Another Oops moment, or maybe not:

Fairly minor one, but as we have seen the morals in the pageant circuit are strange and wondrous in the extreme. Hedda Hopper for some reason, maybe connected to the movie contract or the fact that Martel's runners-up in the 1953 pageant was Myrna Hansen of the U.S. took an interest in the then Miss Magnani's win and started a campaign to have her disqualified. The grounds for this was that she alleged that Miss Magnani was still 17 when she won the title rather than the required 18 yrs of age. She claimed that Magnini's birth certificate had given this 'fact' away when she applied for a marriage licence.

However rather oddly, if she really had been unqualified you would have thought that some scandal would have arisen, but in fact she retained her crown, and she also fulfilled all her duties for the year ... so there must be some doubt as to the truth of the allegations. Especially as Miss Hopper stopped running with the story, and there was no other media interest in the story. Her film contract was not withdrawn under any morality clause and in any event no action was taken, and her life resumed its serene path.

• To date she remains the only French winner of the Miss Universe title.
• Another strange fact is that she is listed in the Miss universe annuls as being the 'representative from France', but not a titleholder from the "official" Miss France pageant.
• 1978 - at the “Miss Universe” pageant in Acapulco, Mexico, she is given a special award by the Mexican government.
• 1988 - is one of the judges of the “Miss Mexico” pageant.
• 1994 - is one of the judges of the “Miss Mexico” pageant.
• 1998 - becomes the first lady of the State of Veracruz when her husband is elected governor.
• 2002 - is one of the judges of the “Miss Mexico” pageant.

No thread or post ... despite the 'age' allegations, I have posted some pictures from the Miss Universe contest as there is no 'nudity' or 'implied nudity' in them, and the US newspapers were happy enough to publish them at the time. The majority of the pictures are from her modeling and film work and there is no doubting her age then.

Anne Son is an American actress of Chinese heritage. After she graduated from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City, she broke into movies in 2004 the movie 'What I Want', and followed this with further movies until breaking into TV in 2009 with a part in 'ER' as Dr. Emily Haverman .... she currently stars in NCIS: Los Angeles (just how many CIS derivative shows can you have?*).

She has recently had an escapade with the police .... reports say that she was arrested this week, after allegedly going on a drunken joyride through L.A. ... and careening into a parked cop car. Police reported that on early Wednesday morning, a couple of police officers had parked their cruiser on a street corner while investigating an unrelated incident, and then Son came careering down the road and smashed into the back of the parked up black-and-white.

Apparently Ms Son then kept driving, causing the officers to pursue her car on foot (their car being somewhat 'hors de combat') .... she eventually stopped further down the block (or ran into something immovable), and when the police finally caught up to her, they were allegedly met with an overwhelming odor of alcohol emanating from Son's vehicle.

The police officers administered a field sobriety test on the spot and she allegedly blew a .19 and a .20 ... well over double the legal limit in California, so they arrested her on suspicion of DUI and hit-and-run, and she was only was released several hours later on $30,000 bail. Son's reps have so far issued no statement.

Trivia:

• She has 2 sisters. One is an oncology nurse and the other is a classical pianist.
• Her father is a 10th degree black belt Grandmaster of Tae Kwon Do and Hapkido.
