“Such as thou art, sometime was I.
Such as I am, such shalt thou be. I thought little on th’our of Death So long as I enjoyed breath. But now a wretched captive am I, Deep in the ground, lo here I lie. My beauty great, is all quite gone, My flesh is wasted to the bone.” Epitaph on the tomb of Edward,The Black Prince

The Matrix Reloaded
The Merovingian:
I love French wine, like I love the French language. I have sampled every language, French is my favourite. Fantastic language. Especially to curse with. Nom de dieu de putain de bordel de merde de saloperie de connard d'enculer ta mère. It's like wiping your arse with silk. I love it. Choice is an illusion, created between those with power, and those without. Agent Smith: We're not here because we're free; we're here because we're not free. There's no escaping reason, no denying purpose, for as we both know, without purpose we would not exist. It is purpose that created us, purpose that connects us, purpose that pulls us, that guides us, that drives us; it is purpose that defines us, purpose that binds us. We are here because of you, Mr. Anderson. We're here to take from you what you tried to take from us. Purpose.

Bill Gates
Your most unhappy customers are your greatest source of learning. It's fine to celebrate success but it is more important to heed the lessons of failure. Intellectual property has the shelf life of a banana. If GM had kept up with technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving $25 cars that got 1,000 MPG. Microsoft is not about greed. It's about innovation and fairness. Capitalism has worked very well. Anyone who wants to move to North Korea is welcome. If your culture doesn't like geeks, you are in real trouble. Google's done a super good job on search; Apple's done a great job on the IPod. At Microsoft there are lots of brilliant ideas but the image is that they all come from the top - I'm afraid that's not quite right. If I'd had some set idea of a finish line, don't you think I would have crossed it years ago? |

Sarah Palin
Polls? Nah... they're for strippers and cross country skiers. We eat, therefore we hunt. People have a constitutional right to burn a Koran if they want to, but doing so is insensitive and an unnecessary provocation - much like building a mosque at Ground Zero. America's finest - our men and women in uniform, are a force for good throughout the world, and that is nothing to apologise for. We're red, white and blue, and President Obama, we are through with you. Assange is not a 'journalist' any more than the 'editor' of al-Qaeda's new English-language magazine 'Inspire' is a 'journalist.' He is an anti-American operative with blood on his hands. In politics there are some candidates who use change to promote their careers, and then there are those like John McCain who use their careers to promote change. We don't need to fundamentally transform America. We need to restore America. I'm pro-life. I'll do all I can to see every baby is created with a future and potential. The legislature should do all it can to protect human life. |

All delivered in a painfully slow, condescending and often phrase repeated, by one who should not be named.
“No-one, however smart, however well-educated, however experienced, is the suppository of all wisdom".
“We just can’t stop people from being homeless if that’s their choice." “What the housewives of Australia need to understand - as they do the ironing - is that if they get it done commercially, it's going to go up in price". “I think it would be folly to expect that women will ever dominate or even approach equal representation in a large number of areas simply because their aptitudes, abilities and interests are different for physiological reasons". “Jesus didn't say yes to everyone, Jesus knew there was a place for everything and it's not necessarily everyone's (asylum seekers and refugees) place to come to Australia". “Same-sex marriage? I'm not someone who wants to see radical change based on the fashion of the moment". “I think there does need to be give and take on both sides, and this idea that sex is kind of a woman’s right to absolutely withhold, just as the idea that sex is a man’s right to demand I think they are both they both need to be moderated, so to speak". “Abortion is the easy way out. It's hardly surprising that people should choose the most convenient exit from awkward situations". “There may not be a great job for indigenous people, but whatever it is they just have to do it - and if it's picking up rubbish around the community, it just has to be done." ‘It’s not goodies versus baddies, it’s baddies versus baddies’ (On the subtleties of the crisis in Syria). |

Though not exactly a nice man, Oliver Cromwell did England a big favour when he made the decision to execute King Charles I. The King was a traitor to his own people who thought they were there to serve him, when in fact it is the King who is there to serve the people. By cutting off King Charles I's head, Cromwell made a statement which all subsequent kings and queens of England (later Britain) have been forced to hear; your Royal person is not inviolate and if you do betray the sacred trust of your Coronation Oath, the penalty may indeed be death.
Cromwell was a realist and he executed King Charles to rid England of a man whose word was worthless and who had proven his implacable determination to constantly re-start the Civil War until he could turn the tables. Cromwell could defeat Charles ten times and it would not solve the problem, because Charles only had to win once and all the Parliamentarians would be hanged (if not worse). Killing King Charles was the only way to make sure that the Civil War would stop flaring up again whenever he could conspire against his own people. But Oliver Cromwell had no illusions about politics. Quote:
