I'm just popping into this thread just to say how pleased I am that VEF is back up and working again. For days I was concerned that it was a problem with my isp at my end.

Credit where credit is due, all of the admins at VEF have my appreciation along with my gratitude for all the ongoing hard work that went on behind the scenes to get the forum back up running again. Thank you.

Maybe I'm just getting old but I'm sorry. I work at a company where there's constant problems with whatever web tools or IT infrastructure there is, and there's such a culture of shaming people who complain about shit being broken. "Yes, but they're working really hard," like they're Vietnam Veterans coming home from the suck. No.

This is a website. It either works and is accessible, or it does not, and if it doesn't, someone isn't doing their job.

First of all, many thanks to the team that brought the site back to life.

Second, I'm seeing timeouts when posting. But if I ask for a form resubmission, I'm told "this is a duplicate of a recent post", and my original submitted post then appears.

This is happening while browsing on an Android tablet. Yet to discover if the same thing happens on a Windows PC. Couple of monkey wrenches may still need to be deployed.

It'll probably happen to this post when I hit "Submit" as well.

I have also seen a few of these. I suspect that we are seeing the impact of the server being under pressure while it is rebuilding the database index. What I've been doing with the timeouts is opening the page in a separate tab in order to check if the post actually went through.

I think the pertinent word there is "work" - this is a free site, none of the mods or Admins get paid for what we do, or the time we put in, and none of us have any control over the IT or infrastructure.

So no, we're "not doing our job", we're giving up our free time to help run this place, so that you can get free access to the porn you want.

It's already been pointed out to you in this thread that there's a few more porn sites than here on the internets, so if you're not happy with the service that you're not paying for here, nobody's stopping you going elsewhere.
