Benny Hill
Don't know what my comrades across the pond thought but I loved the Benny Hill show and the way they managed to work in the "legal: (one only knows the American censors were wary) .. anyway thank you!!

I'm not going to take sides here, because as an American I don't have a good perspective of British tv shows. How can I judge, therefore? I grew up in the US, and loved many of the old shows, just as some of you grew up in the UK and loved your shows. And I'm sure of this, because I used to watch several English shows that I grew to love just as much as US shows, like Masterpiece Theatre, (Upstairs, Downstairs was the first among many that I remember, like I Claudius, and the Flambards), Monty Python, Fawlty Towers, and of course, good old Benny Hill! Nah, it's all relative.

That is true brian, I really dont think you can make comparisons. We have both made damn good shows and we have both made bloody awful ones.

Here's my issue with US Television.
It does not matter what is made - be it a superb effort or mediocre pap, if the corporate marketing geniuses do not support by buying advertising space, then those shows die. It's why we have this constant deluge of reality tv. The new tenet of young America. Stupid = cool. Meh |

I don't suppose we will ever be able to really compare, as we probably both only get to see some of the better efforts, & don't get to see the majority of the dross that they all turn out.

Well one of my points was about the return of Survivors - and it's just fair to point out that it returns to night at nine on the Beeb - well worth watching in my view. However, in the US there would be 24 programmes, but here we get a series of six.
I suppose the old adage 'Always leave them wanting more' may have some justification. |
