The original 'Friends With Benefits' does little to capture my attention, but Nicky Whelan at this time certainly does! Here's a fantasy radio times magazine article to mark the upcoming fantasy 3rd series of 'Jane' featuring the wonderful Glynis Barber. For those not in the know, this was a popular printed piece in the UK to inform folk of what was on the telly...long long before the internet!

I'm aware that Glynis has probably distanced herself from this phase of her work output on objectification grounds...but I find it difficult to get away from the simple reality that she was a total turn-on as Jane. She was achingly gorgeous...and I struggle to think of too many women who have looked as good as Glynis in classic stockings, suspenders and french knickers!

Obviously the article zooms in on her primal feminine allure (appealing to the weak side of people like me!), but I reckon the way the episodes were put together was so interesting and creative. This early-mid 80s period seemed to be such a hotbed for such creative expression. Glynis played the part so well and interacted with the other characters superbly. It looks like there was some excellent research into Glynis's wardrobe for the role, possibly at a time when historical information was maybe a bit less available than now. Aside from the amusing storylines and dialogue, I thought she was beautiful in the array of clothes (and of course underclothes) she wore.

My Glynis Barber 'Jane' fixation continues.

I've been hearing the two series of 'Jane' described (including by Glynis) as 'experimental'. I still look back on them now and marvel at the creavity involved. My imagination has been drifting into a (more lavish) third series...but this could also maybe have been a film.

I see 'Jane' presented as the epitome of the gorgeous feminine glamour of that era. I'm thinking the golden age of Hollywood...with Glynis right up there with Rita Hayworth as a sensational star. The glorious underwear continues to feature prominently...but Jane is also showing off her boudoir attire as she puts on her make-up and gets ready for further adventures. I can see her in perfect elegant dreamy pin-up mode....all stunningly brought to life.

I love how Glynis dresses in the first two series. This vintage style suits her so much- I just wish we'd seen more of her in this mode. I'm certainly no fashion expert, but I tend to bring attire that's maybe more early 50s than 40s (little see through babydoll nighties, floaty glamour robes, seriously high heels, etc)...I'm sure a little bit of artistic license would have been okay!

I know detailed clothing chat's not for everyone. For me, it does so much to set any classic striptease scene...and the more glamorous, the better. To have seen Glynis' 'Jane' with painted nails as long as Rita's famous ones would have been such a turn-on for me all by itself!
