I think it's not a photo of the 50s. At the time, it blurred often the gender. The picture quality does not match either. On every magazine I could see, they were very "smooth" and much less contrasted.

I works in a printing. Of course, this does not mean anything and I'm no expert, but to me, this picture dates from the years under 70.

A find exactly the magazine, I think we still doubt. The Spanish version of Vanity Fair conducted a photo comparison and concluded that it should be the Chancellor.

I thought you might all like to see the results of the coloring of the picture with the Chancellor in it. This was posted by me in the Colorizing thread on 5 August 2013.

Have you ever seen a Helios Magazin from the 50s?

Watch the car in the background of the second picture. Looks to me like a model from the 50s. The girl on the second pic is the same girl as in picture one, but here you can see clearly that she's not Angela Merkel.

The is not a Beetle 50s The shape of the body does not match. This is more recent. But even if she was older, it would mean nothing. Because cars 15 or 20 years that roll again, it is very common.

Many thanks, demsal! But I disagree with the analyst. Googling the Chancellor brings up many photos of her, including those from her youth. After studying the nose, eyes, and smile of the nude girl and Merkel, I think they are very similar. I also measured the height of both in terms of ovals fit to the head of the nude and of the Chancellor standing: both are 6-and-a-fraction heads tall. The three nudes in the photo are not tall women, by this measure. Overall, I* find nothing to disprove that the nude girl is actually the young Angela Merkel (nothing to prove it either).

The Huffington Post, UK edition, carried this story on 4 Sept. 2013: "The image...reportedly shows a then 18-year-old Merkel, several European news outlets have suggested. It was apparently originally posted online in 2009 on the nudist lifestyle blog Nudarist. The Germany Embassy in Washington has declined to comment on the picture, Buzzfeed reports."

"However, Nudarist blogger Chet Kresiak told the website in his opinion it is NOT Merkel. Kresiak says he believes the image originally appeared in a Swedish nudist magazine published in the 1950s and 60s called HELIOS.
He said: “She was born in 1954. This appears to be an April Fool’s joke.”
