I agree!! I would never run another country down, without first hand knowledge too. We are in trouble times; this includes the entire planet. And yes, the US does has issues and they are painful. But so does many other countries. Edge brings up excellent points here... our issues maybe bad, but they are not that bad. We are still operating a government, we still produce food, we still make products and we still make incomes and we have enough to help others out both home and abroad. Edge and myself served our country to protect rights of our citizens and the rights of others. This includes some of folks rights who have posted. I'm not offended, nor am I surprised at some of the comments. BTW, American propaganda for us is the Bill of Rights, the Constitution and many other freedoms we have afforded to us by our fore fathers and the folks who have served our country in some form of service. So, thank you for reminding me. It's been some time since I sat down and defended my country. Cpt. BG United States Air Froce |

One of the strange things about America (strictly speaking The United States of America) is how many people love to slag the place off, and yet how many people want to live there, and how quite frequently these two groups consist of the exact self-same people. We get some of this in Britain as well, people who hate and despise us and every value we stand for, are happy to say so, yet live in Britain on British welfare, their health looked after for free by doctors on the NHS, or who keep attaching themselves to lorries in Calais and trying to get in.
On a slightly lighter note, here are Elmer Bernstein's reflections on America: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qy6wo2wpT2k |

Statistics are an unreliable guide where immigration is concerned; there are no turnstyles with clickometers anywhere on the Rio Grande. As for Britain, for years New Labour opposed Britain joining the Schengen Agreement and grandstanded about standing up for Britain's right to control her borders, but simultaneously abandoned passport checks and maintained no border records of who was entering or leaving the country, to save money. So now we literally do not know how many foreign nationals live here, or what our net migration position is, and neither does anyone else know these things. I don't see how anyone can claim to have the foggiest idea how many people entered of left the USA last year or in any of the last 25 years either. But statistics are always useful for when the toilet paper runs out. |

Does it make sense to talk about immigrants with so many non-Slavic ethnic groups in Russia? Finno-Ugric peoples, Turkic peoples, descendants of Mongols like the Kalmyks etc. There was this linguist called Nikolaj Trubeckoj who had this Eurasian theory of Russians being a mix of Slavs and all those groups towards the East. It was actually Russia coming to those "immigrants" since the 1630ies/40ies.
