Exclamation It ain't easy being a Greenman

It ain't easy being a Greenman

Well, it is actually, ya just gotta live in an attic

But the thread ain't about GM ...

I got my mouth into trouble yesterday afternoon, cuttin' a story short, at a mates BBQ for lunch, My mates Missus was braggin' about their (her ) increasingly Green habits...... She went on and on about her new hybrid car, so I opened my mouth and said I was glad too see her burnin' wood for the BBQ Then I got in the shit

I use no solar panels, use the same amount of power we usually do.... If I need it I'll use it....... about all I do is separate the garbage into the right bins when chuckin' the crap in .....

How can I improve my bad habits

Well for a start you could hyphen Green-Man so it doesn't look like you are having ago at me -which I know but others might misconstrude. What is the real definition of being Green anyway-to me it means not burning needless amounts of fossil fuels, cleaning up the environment and making sure we recycle. Burning wood surely can't be that green, let alone charcoal on barbecues? Each person has their own ideas I suppose.

I reckon you could have several solar panels on your front lawn and a wind turbine in the back garden. You should also get a wood-burning stove with a short chimney, just so your neighbours can smell how green you are. Never throw away anything that will rot, start a compost heap on the downwind side of your property. You could also construct an outdoor privy and every week or so shovel the contents into a biogas digester so you can burn the methane for heat etc. Lastly, let one area of your garden run wild, the insects will attract birds whose droppings make excellent fertiliser.

But seriously, I loved takin' crap down the tip (dump) throwin' the trash in the landfill and having it turned into a lush green golf course a few years down the road. But I do understand the need to recycle plastics and stuff, that makes sense.

But now there ain't dumps, we take our crap to "recycling transfer stations" All under cover, lit up with dozens of mercury vapor lamps ... to me it seems these places use far more power than a dump which uses none The dump becomes a park.... Seems more green to me than the transfer station

While we're at it. Greenman, do you wear a beard? I imagine you having one. Philosoph's white.

I can't grow one. No way. This picture was taken 8 months after I had not shaved..

My genes are f*cked. Even my braincells. I literally feel it.

Well that's the thing it's not insulated-not any more-years ago it had some lagging but it was made of that really itchy asbestos-type stuff that you rolled across the roof. It was taken away when it was found to be dangerous and there is nothing around the pipes. The insulation I get comes from a portable heater-in the Summer there is a zinc sheet on the side of a wall and when that heats up it can get like an oven so it definitely gets very warm and takes ages to dissipate(cool down) which is why I need a fan and on really exceptionally hot days an air-conditioner. However the air-con is fairly useless because it melts the ice in the tray and warms the cold water and then blows warm air-it is not really designed for an attic. I am told we have insulation in the walls so that appears adequate.

If I leave my face unshaven for a few days then I do get the makings of a beard but no I don't have one personally, neither do I have a moustache, although I did when I was a teenager but I looked more like a spiv(dodgy-looking chap from the War years who sold nylons to people from a suitcase or watches from a coat) so I shaved it off. Beards get too itchy and I am not about to become a Rabbi either.
