P&H is wonderful. Just wonderful.

If you want to look at some photos hosted there, during the day, you can go out and walk around the block a few times while waiting. It's a great excuse to get some exercise in.

it takes 20 minutes to an hour to get a page from vef with a bunch of P&H photos to load properly... i am on the 2nd fastest level of service available from my provider, i can DL a full movie in 35 minutes or less... some pages never finish loading, P&H hoovers!

pimpandhost is the second best image hosting site out there (only ********** is better). What are you guys talking about? It loads extremely quickly, uploads efficiently, and provides you with convenient links.

P&H isn't compatible with any of the image download add-ons and the thumbnail links don't take one to the full size image, the user has to click on a second link for each pic individually.

I'd start with your ISP...plenty block domains without telling us

malware infections - a recent one showed imagevenue was all but inaccessible till an infection was removed

problems with their router/connections - recent reports with another host show someone with a fast connection that is working for many sites can still have issues with a host if their router/modem isnt working properly

The ping test as posted by groovesection is a good way of testing it

I trust our System Administrators had good reasons to choose PimpAndHost to 'power' the Board's image uploader. I don't intend to question their decision. I dare guess, however, that those reasons can hardly have had to do with the host's reliability, speed and/or convenience of use. Here is why I never use P&H to host images myself:

1) The thumbnail previews are often terribly sluggish to show up on a forum page
2) Two popups at opening the first picture of a day's viewing session instead of just one that you get with, for instance, IB and IV
3) Unattractive and distracting background colour and texts
4) Large distracting video ads (moreover, ads that often feature seemingly [?] underage 'actors' doing the kinkiest things imagineable)
5) Last but not least, the necessity to click and wait for every single image to load in full size after you have first had to wait to see it in 'medium' size (a view which I, personally, am not the least bit interested in)

Just my two cents.

our admins had no influence on this decision, it was installed by the owner of this forum, who is also owner of p&h. believe me, it was a long discussion but we had no other choice than to accept this.

i agree with all your points, the website looks awful, the performance is horrible and the frontend concept (like having no direct link to the fullsize) is a shoot in their own knees. but you can't oversee the pro - it is very easy to use this service with the "browse-button" as forum plugin, this way technic-noobs/internet beginners have no problem to post their images with working bbcode. so best is to see this service as service for those people who don't know better. an "average surfer" will chose a different host anyways, because he would figure out the downsides on his own very quick.

there is a "workaround" for #5 - you can go to the gallery index where you can download the gallery as zip (but for this, you have to enable p&h in noscript again ). better would be the possibility to download p&h galleries with mass-downloaders like downthemall but this solution is at least better than none.

Pimpandhost back in 2007/2008 were really something to complain about

Almost a 100% of downloaders wanted them gone back then because they were easily the worst host on the net when it came to outages that lasted from days to weeks on a regular basis

How they are now is like comparing night to day if you look at the level of complaints

The ownership issue has always made it a pointless subject to pursue

Not sure why they dont just put VEF sponsored by pimpandhost up somewhere to let posters know

Many thanks for your helpful reply! In the light of what you said I realize that my previous statement may have come across as an attempt at rubbing it in. If so, I apologize – that was certainly not my intention. I admit to have spoken without giving much thought to (and without much knowledge of) the relations between the ownership and the administration of the Forum. Your responce makes everything a lot clearer in that respect.

I agree that the image uploader plugin is a convenient, simple-to-use tool for those less computer-savvy. I would even assume it has gained our online community a good many contributing members who would otherwise have shyed away at the difficulties of using a third party host. So yes, the pros certainly deserve to be recognized as well.
