Nanette Fabray
I'm a little surprised that Nanette has not found her way onto VEF before now. She's had quite the career. To provide a little information on her, I have unashamedly copied the following text from Wikipedia:
Nanette Fabray (born October 27, 1920) is an American actress, comedienne, singer, dancer, and activist. She began her career performing in vaudeville as a child and became a musical theatre actress during the 1940s and 1950s, winning a Tony Award in 1949 for her performance in Love Life. In the mid-1950s, she served as Sid Caesar's comedic partner on Caesar's Hour, for which she won three Emmy Awards. From 1979 to 1984, she appeared as Grandma Katherine Romano on One Day at a Time. Fabray overcame a significant hearing impairment and has been a long-time advocate for the rights of the deaf and hard of hearing. Her honors representing the handicapped include the President's Distinguished Service Award and the Eleanor Roosevelt Humanitarian Award. LIFE Magazine Aug 28, 1950 Various pictures scraped from the internet chum bucket... And here she is a little later in life with the lovely and talented Lucille Ball... http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0264660/ Cheers!

Overlooked in this thread, is Nanette Fabray's more famous niece, SHELLEY FABARES. Shelley spells her name differently and pronounces it differently (FAB-er-ay) while the usual Nanette preference is pronounced fab-RAY.
When Shelley's only parent, her mother, began her long decline, Nanette became her de facto mother and movie/TV advisor, appearing with her on that silly ONE DAY AT A TIME show. There are many funny and interesting moments over the years between the two famous actresses, but perhaps one of the more introspective comments was Nanette in more recent years revealing that Shelley had bright, flaming RED hair in her youth, Nanette referring to Shelley's salon dye jobs over the years from blonde to brown to dark brunette, to light blonde to natural red since her marriage to Mike Farrell. |
