NZ hopeless again. They're worse against Australia than Everton is in the Merseyside Derby.

Well rather than wait for the close of play today to see how England could get back in to what appeared already to be a lost cause I looked in early.
Oh dear. Only Root showed any application in batting with others, if they actually got any bat on ball, just hitting and hoping. Are some of these to be selected again for Tests ? The only plus from this game was Jimmy getting his 700th. He's 41 now and maybe he will also consider his future having reached this milestone. Unless there is a forthcoming test at his home ground where he can leave graciously from 'his end'. |

The Baz ball experiment has failed gloriously, time to move on and revert to the Ken Barrington mode. Root was the only one who realised trying to hit the ball out of the park was going to cost you your wicket.
A sad demise to a series that started so brightly. |

It'd be good to be in NZ tomorrow. Australia need 202 and NZ 6wkts. As often the case, it's up to NZ to decide if they've got the kahunas to knock off Australia.

County Championship up and running again, with rain disrupting some games. Notts V Essex was a close run affair with the pitch helping both bat and ball. Expecting a close run game on the final day, Notts collapsed in spectacular fashion.
Over at Lords a dead pitch and a kookaburra ball contributed to a run fest, with some middx players contributing to their own downfall. Given it's early April, hopefully not a sign of things to come at Lords, with pitches giving no help to bowlers, throughout the summer. |

summer 24
gonna be an unusual year 2024 ... May ... a few t 20s with Pakistan........ last week in May June... t 20 world cup ....... most games starting at 4 pm or 8 pm ! Its only in July and aug that a few test matches kick in 3 with the Windies and 3 with Sri Lanka then in sep the Ozzies appear.... 3 t 20s and 5 odi ! the long hot summer days of May and June are virtually wasted as most of the games start at 6 pm or 8 pm The Ozzies are extending our season right up to the 29th of Sept ! so its going to feel like quite a long season of cricket ..... all of this cricket competing with the Euro football in June and the Olympics in August ! In the end.... should be quite a summer of sport ! |
