There used to be a very good and entertaining (with some top-rate contributors who pontificated not only the historical, philosophical and psychological aspects of striptease and every possible bit of info and minuiae regarding every spect of the scene- including details about the girls but on every other topic under the sun as well), dedicated yahoo news group on the London pub stripping scene.
But alas, now that New Labour have brought in a punitive licensing scheme (courtesy of Harridan Harperson) I regret we might have seen the last of this wonderful piece of 'Olde London' vernacular, that strange hidden subculture known only to a few cognescenti that somehow evokes the undefinable typical 70s sleaze of the 'Sweeney' era - big collars, dodgy geezers, Double Diamond and as you say 'old hounds' doing the rooubds with collecting glass in hand - and not averse to doing a bit of 'flap action' on stage and pulling down some lucky young angelic-cheeked 18 year old punter's trousers down and giving him the cheap thrill that made all his Christmases come at once - and plenty of good wank fodder for many a lonely night afterwards.

Hi Foxbark, I've never seen any acts in London pubs, unless you count watching brief appearances in the 'Sweeney' or 'Minder' - all my experiences are of pub strippers 'oop North!', though it's apparent that the pub stripping scene was similar all over the country.

As a youth pub stripping amazed me - in such a generally repressed country as Britain, I couldn't believe how explicit the acts were.

IIRC the Liverpool electricians xmas party used to feature a pretty strong act.

After time you got to know the good pubs where the girls would go a little bit further. Mainly in Leith. (Dock area) Nobles. (Re-opened as a trendy bar). The girls would do the dance then go off stage, come back out totally naked and go to the bar for a drink, pushing through the punters. If you had the spondoolicks they would take you back stage before their next show. Everyone came back with a smile. Happyland. (Trendy Bar/ Restaurant now) When they were finished you could touch, for a small fee, in full view of everyone else, but if you got carried away you were literally carried away by the very big bouncers who would throw you off dock into the nearby sea. Salamander Bar. (Sadly houses now). I remember when some so called hard man was controlling two young girls. 19/20ish. One was slim gorgeous the other still nice but a wee bit plumper. There was no stage in this place so they danced in front of you at arms length. The gorgeous one only dance mainly clothed because the hard man wanted her to himself. So the nice one had to keep the punter happy. Naked, we all had a fe-l, a few blowjo=s to the regulars and everyone went home happy. 10 o'clock closing in those days.
