... for February 17-23, 1973. She's on the cover with Rock Hudson, her co-star in McMillan & Wife. In the photo of her in the article, she's holding her infant daughter, so (to comply with The Rules) I whited that photo out on the page, then did a separate scan of it, zeroing in on her face, and whiting out as much of the kid as I couldn't crop out. (Reading this posting will be like a day without Sunshine.) Weird to think that the kid is now in her early 40s, or about to enter them. (I wonder if she's legally changed her name.) Interesting to see her using "women's lib," if the writer quoted her accurately. (Admittedly, a big "if.") Sometime in the 1970s I saw her on some talk show and she was scornful of the term, claiming it was used by those who ridiculed "feminism," which she said was the correct term for the "women's movement." Mostly, though, she spent her time on the show stridently promoting the virtues of vegetarianism. And, 39 years later, talking about "dating" isn't dated at all.

But I'm reading the article with 20-20 hindsight. Lucky for me that no one was writing down stuff I said back then . . .

A few years later, she asked for more money (according to some versions) and was fired (according to all versions), and the Powers That Be killed off her character, and did the show as just McMillan, with Hudson as a widower cop. It was cancelled after a few episodes. They should have given her the money (or whatever else she was wanting) . . .

Incidentally, the magazine article (in February 1973) says that she's 24, but both IMDB and Wikipedia have her as born August 14, 1946, which would have made her actually 26. (NOTE: this is a correction -- somehow I originally came up with 22, duh!)
