We are...for the most part, but a quote I am paraphrasing here sums up Americans "we are a nation of perverts pretending to be puritans."
As for Ms. Manhart, and the other women in these posts, their employers had a problem with the nudity. Some didn't see it coming but others---employed as Police, prison guards, military, teachers, should have know better. Just about all of them in the above mentioned professions with the exception of the military, were not initially fired because of them posing nude, but from the complaints/problems generated from said action.
As for the military, it is an interesting dichotomy. They want that image of their women as professionals and not sex objects, which does not take into account a woman's femininity.
I like comments and thoughtful insight, especially from our European brothers, keep them coming.

One of those 'vague memory' moments. Maybe twenty plus years ago a newspaper ran a story about a female nurse at a prison whose name of all things was Bareham. (That's the nurse, not the prison). Pictures had been found of her in a magazine from previous years. The mag was obviously hot property in the prison. That's all I can remember and I think that's as far as the story ever went.

Taylor Corley

A nude pictorial in Playboy ended the cheerleading career for a Mississippi State freshman.
“I am no longer cheering for (Mississippi) State,” Taylor Corley announced on a Memphis radio show. “Me and my coaches decided that it was either Mississippi State cheerleading or my Playboy career. Pretty much the decision was made for me that I was no longer going to be cheering for them.”
The blonde beauty posed under the alias Taylor Stone in the November 2010 issue Playboy, but classmates—and her cheerleading coaches—recognized her.


“It was definitely a shock to everyone,” Corley explained. “I don’t think they were expecting something like that to come from a cheerleader, especially in such a conservative state.”
Corley was discovered at an Atlanta casting call.
“It was kind of a joke at first and then it actually ended up turning into something,” she explained. “It was a little nerve-wracking at first because I’ve never shown my boobs in front of the camera before, but it was pretty fun!”


With her Playboy notoriety, Corley is leaving school to pursue a career in—what else—reality television.
“It’s called Girl Flag, it’s a pilot for MTV and VH1. It’s follows around four girls and I’m one of them.”

So absurd, it pisses me off. Why should anyone get fired for something that they do on their own time??? As long as it's legal, why should it affect the employers??? Bunch of crybabies, there ought to be law forbidding unlawful termination based on a legal activity done off of work premises, and on own time.

Try working for a school system. Say anything bad about it in any medium, including blogs, etc., and you're toast. Doesn't matter if you don't name kids names nor show their pictures; if you say that the Upper Bumfud School district is screwed up, you can be punished. Look at what's happening to that female teacher in Pennsylvania.

What's the most funny (i should rather say the most shocking) thing about all those ones saying being shocked in recognizing someone they know that is close to their organization is that they READ themselves the Playboy magazine in the first place. How hypocrite they are!

It may be in their own time but it's not of their own merits when much of the selling point around the pictorial is based on who their employer is. This is compounded even further where the model wears (either fully or partially ) any uniform asociated with the job. It strikes me as a little naive then to expect some sort of ringing endorsement from their employer .
If you want to get your tits out for the cameras, fine, please be my guest. If you want to exploit the brand image of your employer (who generally protect that sort of thing zealously, it being one of the things that helps them make money) in making you more money than you might otherwise expect to have made then you are in for something of a rude awakening.
