P.S. Speaking of the hot tub, here are some glimpses of the lady in it: These were found online, and are low-res. First is what looks like a poster for the movie or maybe the video; second comes the front and back covers (and spine) for the DVD; and third is the front cover of the VHS sleeve. That's Shirley McLaine with her head in the inset oval. P.P.S. And here're a few more posters for the movie: First is a poster promoting Ms. Derek more than the first one I posted, second is a lobby card with a nice wet pic of the lady, and the third is a foreign poster, much raunchier than the U.S. one, though I don't know which language it's in. And here's a TV trailer for the movie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qc8um6MU5ys

Cathy Collins was quite the tomboy in 1960s LA: horses, motorcycles, surfing. Her Dad had supplied the bikes for Ann-Margret's films, and she became a family friend, giving Cathy one of her cars when she turned sixteen. Cathy did some modeling and won a Miss Teen California pageant, then dropped out two months later for skipping the sponsor's luncheons. "I dabbled with drugs for only about four months, mostly pot and psychedelics ... At sixteen I realized I was the only virgin among my friends. So I quickly found an obliging boy and joined their ranks."
An agent of Ann's suggested she model, and referred her to actor-photographer John Derek and his (third) wife Linda Evans. ("Live fast, die young, and leave a good-looking corpse" was a line he said before being executed in a movie) He was demanding and critical. "John told me that I was lazy, getting fat, and obviously not ready for the responsibility required to star in a film [Once upon a Time, shot in Greece]." She did get the part, and a gold necklace for her 17th birthday, then a kiss a few days later. When her Mom read this in her diary she slapped Cathy so hard she got a nosebleed. "I could tell by Linda's demeanor that John had told her everything. She was always very proud and dignified, making me feel even more awkward and ugly ... They had talked and fought it out until Linda decided to leave. She believed it was just a matter of time before the infatuation would die out ..." Mrs Collins reluctantly gave Cathy her passport, then returned to the US. "My first night with John was spent outside of Munich in the beautiful old Hotelschloss, which sits next to a centuries-old castle. We would be faithful to each other for the next twenty-five years." She quit school, traveled Europe, and ducked legal charges of statutory rape and violating the Mann Act. "Ursula [Andress, the second wife] called. 'Chon! What are you doing with this girl? How could you do this to Linda?" "Shit, Urs, I don't know," said John. "Chon, I need you to sign some papers for me. Switzerland doesn't acknowledge our Mexican divorce [from 1966]" "I'll sign your papers. I want you to meet the girl." I was always THE GIRL. The girl who broke up a beautiful marriage ... Seeing John and glorious, exotic Ursula together made me scream to myself." When she was nineteen they married at a tacky Las Vegas chapel at 2 AM by a female minister wearing pajamas and hair curlers. "I don't remember where 'Bo' came from; probably a friend recommended it ... John had shown some pictures of me to Hugh Hefner, who said, 'I've never seen anything I wanted to defile so much'. John said that I should take that as a compliment." They formed a production company, shot a porn movie (without Bo), then made "10". "[10] was splendid, and I was able to enjoy all but about ten minutes of it, because that's how long I'm on-screen. I can't stand to watch myself. I get so embarrassed that I want to crawl under the seat!" Tarzan the Ape Man was in the public domain but still endured lawsuits over the nudity, after an arduous shoot in Africa. She admits she wasn't much of an actress in Bolero. "I find [controversy over nudity] so hypocritical. Why is it all right to be base and outright vulgar as long as you have three little patches of your body covered with thin pieces of fabric? People glamourize and accept hideous violence in movies as a form of entertainment ... I'm not an exhibitionist. I don't go out in sexy or revealing dresses, and these days I wouldn't be caught dead in a bikini at the beach ... No coarse or vulgar poses. Just beautiful photos of a subject without clothes ... I guess I have a more European attitude toward nakedness. Growing up on the beach, I never found much difference between being nude and some of the itty-bitty bikinis we all wore." She admits her biggest scandal in Hollywood by far was being a Republican, and campaigning for George W Bush. "You'll never work in Hollywood again" a well-known actor, who wishes to remain anonymous, told me. 'The business is so liberal, you'll be blacklisted. It's true. If you don't believe me, ask - - ' He ran down a list of famous names ... Many members of the cast and crew came up to me and whispered that I was courageous to stand up for what I believe. They also whispered, 'I voted for Bush. But don't tell anyone. I'll lose my job.' " John was broke most of his professional career, and died in 1998. Bo spent years on various legal and financial issues, then took up with an unnamed gentleman in the final chapter. Ghosted by Mark Seal, 267 pages, much of it dealing with horse-rearing as a metaphor for life. Last edited by Alan DeMoss; November 14th, 2010 at 11:19 PM.. Reason: add a pic |
