To follow up on my recent post on the 40th Anniversary of Karen’s appearance as Miss January, I searched for “new” photos of Karen, and found these. I think they’re from her immediate post-PB career as a model and stunt woman. She’s gorgeous, as always. The first was for some sort of Vegas-style show (does anyone know who the guy is?). The second may have been for the stunt women calendar that photographer Andy Pearlman hoped to produce. I’ve never found that calendar, if it exists, but Pearlman said that Karen was one of the women he photographed. Judging from her smile, Karen enjoyed day.

Dear Fellow Fans,

I would like to add one last post to my appreciation of Karen on the fortieth anniversary of her appearance in PB, thanks to two unanticipated finds. I’m glad the photographer gave Karen the sword on that Conan the Barbarian shoot. She’s a natural, and yes, Karen could cut anyone in half, including the big guy. if she put her mind to it. Not that she’d ever want to, but she’s so darned strong. And then there’s a current picture of Karen, beauty incarnate.

Again, please keep Karen in your thoughts. She’s had a rough time since losing her business this past summer to COVID. She’ll rebound, I’m sure, because if there’s one thing she’s demonstrated in her life, she’s strong in every way. But I hate to see her and so many other Americans suffer because of the pandemic and its tragic consequences, and because of our underfunded information infrastructure, which seems to be good at getting benefits to fraudsters and not so good at getting benefits to people who are deserving. Penny-wise and pound foolish.

I’ve been afraid for several years that we’ll never see another great picture of Karen, now that Playboy has thrown her and her fans under the bus. But wonders haven’t yet ceased. Here’s Karen on the set of Old Gringo with Jane Fonda, for whom she was a stunt double. Ms. Fonda (aka Karen’s speaking double) is three inches taller than Karen, but she’s otherwise a good match for Karen and pretty darned curvaceous in her own right. She’s a worthy member of the “Beautiful Women’s Club.” But no question in my mind who’d be inducted first.

I’d like to add that I’ve been following the new “glamourgirlsurvey.” Each week for the past 40 weeks the moderator has put forward a list of thirty beautiful women from the 1950s through the present and has asked fans to vote for their favorites. He’s done an amazing job of finding a seemingly endless stream of beauties from stage, screen, and yes, PB. The competition is still in its opening round, with 1,200 women so far and counting. A handful of PB greats haven’t yet appeared, including Marilyn Monroe. But guess who’s one of the top ten vote getters so far? Karen is the only woman in the top ten who isn’t famous. The only PMs in the stratosphere with her, in the company Sophia Loren, Ann Margaret, et al., were promoted heavily by PB—Cynthia Myers, June Wilkinson, and Candy Loving. I hope Karen’s fans will take the trouble to sign up for the survey and vote for her the next time she appears.

The playoffs are probably months away. But once again, Karen has soared to the top. She’s not our private obsession. She’s a dream for every guy who knows her—forty years after we first got a chance to meet her.

After a fall, Castoldi* left the stunt world and became a professional acrobat. She opened the studio American Acrobats Performing Arts & Fitness in Redlands. But during the pandemic, she couldn’t keep the doors open even after receiving a Paycheck Protection Program loan and couldn’t afford to pay rent on her home, eventually becoming homeless.

"I just had nowhere to go because I also had the situation with the PPP and the pandemic," she said. "I used my retirement to keep the studio open until July, so I lost everything." -- Spectrum News 1

So Karen lost her business because of COVID, like many small "gig workers" have. Sad.

Some other fairly recent shots of Karen... just breaks your heart to hear what's happened to her... and what has happened to so many like her. I read even before COVID that the only difference from making it, to being homeless, is having a job. And if you lose that, the savings go quick...
