Thumbs up

NoScript does the job to suppress the pop-ups.

And even "Image being retrieved from backup" * is working again. So I'm going to continue using ImageBam.
_____________

* They seem to work with a sort of MD5 (Message-Digest Algorithm 5) checksum to save and find the pics.

Example:
0d7d79d7487f8bf5150fbfa1ffd7677e (MD5)
0d7d794730681 (string in link)
Code:
[URL=http://www.imagebam.com/image/0d7d794730681][IMG]http://thumbnails6.imagebam.com/474/0d7d794730681.gif[/IMG][/URL]
= "Image being retrieved from backup".

None of the Imagebam images are loading, a real waste of time IMO.
I'll stick with Imagevenue, at least the model threads are loading those images.

july 13, 2009: Older Imagebam galleries seem to load a bit slower, but they do load.
Awaiting more observations..

Default Imagevenue Issues?

Hi,

I don't know if anyone else is having these problems, but recently when trying to open pictures on Imagevenue, some of the images just refuse to open and hang for ages. I've tried opening them in different browsers, but it's the same result. Some open normally, but others just don't. I've encountered it a few times this week and it's becoming frustrating. The thumbnails show, but the pics just won't load.

Am I alone in this?

Last days imagevenue seems to be having a few issues or perhaps maintenance.

On august 1 i was not able to upload anything as i got constant message:
Quote:
We can not store this type of file!
Please refer to FAQ section for file formats.
... while i was uploading allowed .jpg files.

Luckely that sorted itself after a couple of hours and still working correct on my end.

Have not encountered your specific problem but i do not watch so much images so might have missed it. When you encounter such a "problem image" then link it here so that we can look if it also happens when we try to view.

Know btw that imagevenue has several servers and when you have 1 image galery in a post then the images in that post will be spread over several servers, it could be that one server is having some problems.

For the last several days I have received the worrisome message[paraphrase]
xxx.jpg is on banned list, your IP: xx.xxx.xxx.xxx has been logged

I think this 'feature' was a part of the July maintenance.
And I think its possible that imagebam is finding a new revenue stream by charging paysites to check for unique filenames.

my workaround [PITA] is to shorten unique filenames to their base name.
i.e. 657001.jpg
to
001.jpg

Actually, that message routinely showed up for me as long as six months ago when I tried to load images from a couple of specific paysites (perhaps more sites have recently signed on). The workaround was imagevenue, which I hate to use (problems with my specific hardware/software: routinely fails to load any images at all, renames all images arbitrarily, routinely fails to load some images, then they show up in multiples in subsequent attempts, always reorders the images. Surely not everyone has this many problems! My older machine which can't upgrade the OS isn't supported by the latest release of Flash.)

Bam has been really slow for me the last few days, and seems to have developed more bad links/dropped out pictures than in the past. Does anyone recommend other hosts besides Bam and venue?

The trouble is once you mention a good site which is better than the previous best it suddenly becomes popular overnight, the servers get stressed, stuff goes missing and soon becomes like all the rest...catch 22

I know of one that was set-up less than 2 months ago which started with files being allowed up to 10mb in size...they've since revised this to 2mb..due to its popularity..and added any images experiencing high net volume traffic will be deleted...sign of the future I think

The wiseman will always keep a good site to himself if he wants it to remain that way
Imagevenue & Imagebam are about as good as its ever going to get imho

That's interesting. I didn't know about the different servers, that might be where the problem lies.

Here's an example of one that doesn't want to open:
