Not quite accurate (otherwise the post is excellent). The trend can be spotted to 1915 quite closely. (The 1920s flappers all had shaved pits.) Before that time, women's dresses always concealed the armpits. Fashion began to change abruptly with WWI (skirts got shorter, too), and once the pits were exposed women began to shave them. It was made feasible by the safety razor, which had come onto the market big time about a decade before. Razor advertising certainly helped the trend once it started.

Bush trimming/shaving was given a big impetus by the coming of bathing suits with ever-narrower crotches - though it's hard there to figure which was chicken and which was egg.

BTW the above applies mainly to USA, Britain, and the British dominions. Continental women generally shaved neither pits nor legs until after WWII.

I think you're right about the dates. My mistake - now you mention it I'm certain it was around the WW1 era... I'm pretty sure it was a Vogue magazine pictorial on swimsuits that was the first to show models with shaved pits, and that started the trend.

Yes, the high cut swimsuits of the late 80s and 90s led to more and more side shaving so hair wouldn't show. But this was because it was TOO sexy , like letting a nipple show. Bushes went from wide V s to rectangles .

Then, sometime around 10 years ago, the cut of the swimsuits went back to the low-slung now popular. But suddenly pubic hair was disgusting and all or almost all was shaved or waxed. The first completely shaved PB centerfold was Dalene Curtis Sept 2001.

This is the part I don't get.
Why do women want to remove hair that only their boyfriend, husband, or OB/GYN ( MD )will see?

Interesting. I would have guessed more like 1990.

I remember Deep Throat had a sequence with Linda Lovelace shaving her bush, and in 1972 that was really really bizarre.

By the mid-90s, Playmates were down to rectangles, which got more and more narrow and were mere strips by 2000. Even after 2001, some still sport strips and there were 3 Playmates in '05 and '06 which had small , but definite triangles , those these were not displayed prominantly as were the full bushes of yesteryear.

What also hurts is women with fake nails, tan and breast.

I can see the bush making a minor comeback but I fear it will be a niche thing.

I reckon in real life, more and more women trim.

That's the part that puzzles me.
Shaving in porn is one thing, but why do ordinary women do it?

Do that many men really like it?

I'm hoping it has a popularity as the "in" thing to do, but that people will trend back toward the "natural" as they realize it's a hassle with few advantages.

When I was younger all I ever saw were hairy beavers and I developed an interest in bald ones. As I grew older, all the pussies were suddenly bare, and I started craving hair.

i guess i'm quite lucky living in asia, as most of the women here keeps their pubic... even sometimes they trimmed it, but it's surely nicer to see some hair there.

Yes, i don't like to remember my cousin's pussy back when we were 6 years old . It was nice then and there only.

And also these hairs actually helps in protecting the vulva's health, as in your eyebrows or nose hair. Of course you need to wash them regularly though!
