I think you're right about the dates. My mistake - now you mention it I'm certain it was around the WW1 era... I'm pretty sure it was a Vogue magazine pictorial on swimsuits that was the first to show models with shaved pits, and that started the trend.

Yes, the high cut swimsuits of the late 80s and 90s led to more and more side shaving so hair wouldn't show. But this was because it was TOO sexy , like letting a nipple show. Bushes went from wide V s to rectangles .

Then, sometime around 10 years ago, the cut of the swimsuits went back to the low-slung now popular. But suddenly pubic hair was disgusting and all or almost all was shaved or waxed. The first completely shaved PB centerfold was Dalene Curtis Sept 2001.
