I grew up with the 70's Penthouse magazines and couldn't wait for the next one to become published each month. The couple's layout never failed to arouse this young lad. As time went on the envelope was pushed as we all witnessed. And over the past years I have seen some old layouts that were simulated features in print and then discovered that hardcore photos were also taken during the session. That became the "Strongbox" which I discovered later in life. Best stuff out there for sure.

Thanks to historian PHcoupleFan for his thorough review of great moments in PH b/g couple and group layouts. (I think I see the basis for a PhD thesis here. ) It's also interesting to note how developments in these pictorials reflected the historical period during which they were produced. The 70's were somewhat permissive and allowed for exploration and boundary-pushing, but there was not much movement forward during the Reagan-era 80's. The Clinton-era 90's saw an uptick in explicitness, culminating in the move to full hardcore in the late 90's. In my opinion, the five most important pictorials historically were "Love in the Afternoon", "The Duel", "The Lady and the Stableboy", "The Body English", and "Silverado."

Thanks much! With a title like "Silverado," however, I was expecting something Western-themed.

I would add my all-time favorite 'Bawdy Bathers' (Dec/74) to the list.
It's very erotic and, of course, features the staggering Joyce Gibson looking her hottest.

Thank you to j1025 for his comments. I'm not quite up to the honor of being the "official historian of PH couples and groups", but maybe after I get my PhD I can apply for the position.
I have four nominations for the five most important PH couples pictorials historically and a few thoughts for the fifth: The Duel, The Lady and the Stableboy, Truck Stop and Silverado. For the fifth my thoughts are Richie and Fran/The Body English, Paul and Christa or ? Last edited by PHcoupleFan; September 28th, 2014 at 08:16 PM.. |

Wow, thanks a lot for this wonderful historic overview! You should make your PhD as a PH couples expert! ;-) As I am not as good as you in this field but I followed your recommendations and dived deep in int the matter!
