The Ladybyrds were a all-female topless band during the 60's.
They should also apear in 'The wild, wild world of Jayne Mansfield'.

I am glad that there is a thread on The Ladybirds. This band is one of the most interesting things in American history. However, It's not really clear as to which one of the bands this thread is about. There are photos of two all-girl topless rock bands called The Ladybirds.

Aside from the all-girl singing group from England, there were two different topless bands called The Ladybirds. The first group was from the US, while the other one was from Denmark.

The American Ladybirds hailed from New Jersey and started out as showgirls. They eventually started doing fake musical performances where they would pretend to play instruments. When problems arose from their performances not matching the recordings and other technical gaffs, they eventually learned how to play instruments. The group tried branching out of the strip club scene and into public venues, but where faced with opposition because they performed topless.

They would move to California to play the Blue Bunny club before gaining enough attention and touring across the US, Canada and even Mexico (they actually got banned from ever performing here again). Here's a picture of them performing:

The group from Denmark would tour all over Europe and even opened for the Yardbirds, the precursor to Led Zeppelin. Here's a pic of them:

So these are two completely bands. I've been searching everywhere for as much information on the US Ladybirds as possible in order to write a detailed history on them. Hopefully more photos surface along with audio recordings and videos.
